Job Description

The Tutor provides assistance and support to the Academic Teacher. The Tutor assists with the delivery of lessons and hands-on projects. The Tutor shall report to the Program Supervisor.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Job Duties & Responsibilities include:


  • Attends mandatory training one week prior to the start of a program.

  • Helps reinforce program rules.

  • Provides direct student supervision during class time.

  • Works together as a team with the teacher to plan and facilitate lesson plans and hands-on activities.

  • Assists teachers with student displays during the MISL Closing Ceremony.

  • Maintains great communication with teachers and offers support as needed.

  • Servers as a role model for program students.

  • Helps teachers maintain a safe environment and center security.

  • Reinforces effective classroom management.

  • Helps collect and input student pre- and post-evaluations data.

  • Completes and submits a program report/survey after completion of the program.

  • Performs other duties assigned by the Instructor and Program Supervisor.


Ongoing Employment Eligibility:


  • Complete an initial background clearance and maintain eligibility through FUSD’s background clearance requirements.

  • Complete an initial tuberculosis (TB) test and/or participate in additional testing if needed to determine employment eligibility.

  • Mandated Report Training & Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

  • Attend trainings as assigned by supervisor.


Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:


Education

  • Have completed at least 48 units of college courses.


Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with students.

  • Must be majoring in a STEM related career.


Skills

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising good judgment in a fast paced multitask environment with minimal supervision.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with personnel, students, and supervisors in a courteous and professional manner.

  • Fluent in both English and Spanish.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Standing for extended periods of time, kneeling, bending, pushing and pulling, sitting, and the ability to lift 30 pounds.

  • Facility to hear and understand speech at normal room levels.
